Society of Preventive Dentistry of Hong Kong

Society of Preventive Dentistry of Hong Kong (SPDHK) is registered as a charity organization in Hong Kong and as an associate member of Hong Kong Dental Association. With a high regard for evidence-based dentistry, dental education and research on preventive dentistry, SPDHK provides a formal platform for fellow dentists who share a common interest to promote oral health in the community.

The Origin

Promoting the Practice of Prevention of Oral Diseases

Many oral diseases and dental conditions are preventable with good oral hygiene practice and / or early treatment. By a group of dentists firmly believe in the importance of prevention, the Society of Preventive Dentistry of Hong Kong was founded in 2021 with a mission of promoting the practice of preventive measures in dentistry.

Preventive dentistry is dental care that helps maintain good oral health. Preventing future dental diseases and preventing complications from existing dental conditions are crucial to the future sustainability of oral health, which is an important and integral part of general health.

Ordinary Membership

Requirement

An applicant shall be a registered dentist with the Dental Council of Hong Kong or a dentist deemed to be registered to practice dentistry in Hong Kong with an interest in preventive dentistry. They are entitled to vote, and to hold offices of the Society.

Associate Membership

Requirement

An applicant shall be interested in preventive dentistry and not be eligible to apply for Full or Student Member. They are not entitled to vote, or to hold offices of the Society.

Student Membership

Requirement

An applicant shall be a dental student, dental assistant student, dental therapist student, dental technician student or dental hygienist student in a recognized institute. They are not entitled to vote, or to hold offices of the Society.

Life Membership

Requirement

An applicant shall be a registered dentist or dentist deemed to be registered with the Dental Council of Hong Kong and with interest in preventive dentistry as well as pay the Life Membership fee. They are entitled to vote, and to hold offices of the Society.

Honorary Membership

Requirement

The Council has the power to bestow Honorary Membership upon any Member over 60 years of age, who has been a Full Member of good standing; or upon any professional invited by the Council Members. Honorary Members shall not be required to pay any subscription but shall enjoy all the privileges of Full Members.

Note: The membership fee is valid from 1 July to 30 June. The membership fee must be paid before 15 August.
