About 8,000 household with 18,000 South Asians are living in Hong Kong. Due to the language barrier, many of them have little access to dental care. The HKU Faculty of Dentistry, together with the Society of Preventive Dentistry of Hong Kong and the Inner City Ministries organised an outreach dental service to promote oral heath to them. The service was carried out in Yau Ma Tai on 1 July 2022 when typhoon number 3 was hoisted. Dr Conson Yeung led a group of dental students to serve a total of 63 Nepalese. They provided basic oral examination, dietary advice, oral health education, and topical fluoride treatment for those in need. The participants were generally very satisfied with the service despite the weather condition was unfavourable. Dr Conson Yeung and the dental students were also pleased with this community service.
